Step 1: Earn Pilot Certificates & Ratings

Starting with zero experience, you must first earn an FAA commercial multi-engine pilot certificate and instrument rating. The Airline Career Pilot Program is the most efficient and proven way to earn the certification you need to become an airline pilot, which will take you just twelve months.

Already a Current Delta Air Lines Employee?

Step 2: Flight Instructor Job

After graduating, build experience as an ATP flight instructor to qualify for airline hiring minimums.

Step 3: Build Experience and Flight Hours

Between 500-1250 total flight time, recommended instructors can participate in the Propel Program and interview with Delta. Successful applicants will receive a Qualified Job Offer (QJO) from Delta.

Step 4: Start Flying for Endeavor Air

Endeavor Air

Once you reach 1,500 hours of flight time, you will start flying for Endeavor Air as an airline pilot.

Step 5: Start as a Pilot with Delta Air Lines

Delta Air Lines

After gaining experience as a regional airline pilot at Endeavor, you will have the opportunity to progress to Delta Air Lines after a minimum of 24 months of service as an Endeavor Captain.

Step 1: Airline Career Pilot Program

Start flight training in ATP's Airline Career Pilot Program. The Airline Career Pilot Program is the most efficient and proven way to earn the certification you need to become an airline pilot.

Step 2: Apply for United AviateSM
9 Months

United Aviate

In nine months, you'll earn your commercial pilot certificate and be eligible to apply for United Aviate. Upon acceptance, you'll receive a conditional job offer as a United First Officer.

Step 3: Earn Pilot Certificates & Ratings
12 Months

Once accepted into the Aviate program, you can begin taking advantage of United travel privileges and mentorship while you earn your flight instructor certificates in just twelve months.

Step 4: Build Experience and Flight Hours

Fly as an instructor with ATP to gain 1,500 hours of experience and interview with one of ATP's United Express airlines.

Step 5: Fly for an Aviate-Participating United Express Carrier or Part 135 Operator

Once reaching airline minimums at 1,500 hours, you'll begin flying as an airline pilot within the Aviate network.

Step 6: Fly for United

United Airlines

After 1,200 hours flying for an Aviate-participating United Express carrier or Part 135 operator as a Pilot In Command (PIC), you will be eligible to transition to United as a First Officer.

Step 1: Apply to American Airlines Cadet Academy

Complete an application, online assessment, and virtual and in-person interviews. Successful candidates will receive an offer to join the American Airlines Cadet Academy Program and a Conditional Offer of Employment from one of American Airlines' wholly owned regional airlines.

Step 2: Airline Career Pilot Program

Start flight training in the Airline Career Pilot Program.

Step 3: Graduate with your Commercial & CFI Certificates

Remain in good standing, and within nine months to twelve months of starting the program, you’ll graduate with your Commercial Pilot and Flight Instructor certificates.

Step 4: Build Flight Experience

Build experience as an ATP flight instructor after graduating to qualify for airline hiring minimums.

Step 5: Fly for American Airlines Regional Carrier

Become an airline pilot for one of American Airlines' wholly owned regional airlines: Envoy, Piedmont, and PSA.

Step 4: Fly as Regional First Officer

Once you reach 1,500 hours of flight time, complete the ATP CTP course sponsored by Envoy. Once finished, you’ll be placed into the next available new hire class at Envoy Air and begin flying as a regional airline first officer.

Step 5: Upgrade to Captain

After approximately two years flying as first officer, upgrade to captain with Envoy Air.

Step 6: Fly for American Airlines

American Airlines

Upon accruing seniority at an American Airlines regional carrier, participate in the contractual flow-through to American Airlines.

Step 1: Earn Pilot Certificates & Ratings
Start With Zero Experience

Immediately upon starting training, apply for Frontier's Pilot Cadet Program. Accepted Cadets receive flight benefits, mentorship, and monthly stipends.

Step 3: Complete the Airline Career Pilot Program
12 Months

Receive $500 monthly stipends throughout the remainder of your training and graduate in twelve months with your commercial pilot and flight instructor certificates.

Step 4: Build Experience and Flight Hours

Earn 1,500 hours of flight experience as an instructor with ATP.

Step 5: Complete Jet Transition & ATP CTP Course
1,500 Hours

Complete a Frontier sponsored ATP CTP course and jet transition program with ATP, utilizing a full-motion Airbus A320 simulator.

Step 6: Start as a Pilot with Frontier
2.5 Years

Frontier Airlines

Start flying as an Airbus First Officer with Frontier. This accelerated career track allows you to go directly to the major airlines at 1,500 hours and enjoy higher starting pay, increased career stability, and improved quality of life.

Step 1: Earn Pilot Certificates & Ratings
12 Months

Step 5: Start as a Pilot with Spirit
2.5 Years

Start flying as an Airbus First Officer with Spirit. This accelerated career track allows you to go directly to the major airlines at 1,500 hours and enjoy higher starting pay, increased career stability, and improved quality of life.
