ATP CTP Airline Transport Pilot Certification Training Program

With successful ATP CTP graduates, ATP is the nation’s leader in Airline Transport Pilot certification. The ATP CTP bridges the knowledge gap between commercial aviation and air carrier operations, meets the requirements of FAR 61.156. Upon graduation, you will gain eligibility for the ATP Multi-Engine (ATM) knowledge test (not included), which you may take at select testing centers nationwide.

Ground School

Complete 30 hours of classroom instruction either virtually or in-person taught by experienced instructors and airline pilots. Topics include high altitude operations, weather phenomena and detection systems, professional development, crew resource management, and safety culture.

Flight Training Device

Log 4 hours in a fixed-base training device covering navigation and flight management systems, and automation including autoflight. Hands-on simulator training consolidates the conceptual knowledge from ground school before advancing to full-motion simulation.

Full-motion flight simulator at ATP JETS

Full-Motion Simulator

Complete 6 hours in a full-motion simulator covering low energy states and stalls, upset recovery techniques, and adverse weather conditions—including icing, thunderstorms, and crosswinds with gusts.

Airline transport pilot flight deck

Qualify for the ATM Knowledge Test

Your graduation certificate demonstrates completion of the training required by §61.156 and meets the prerequisite for the Airline Transport Pilot Multi-Engine (ATM) knowledge test (not included). Add $250 to your ATP CTP for ATM Knowledge Test prep and testing at select locations nationwide.

Virtual Instructor-Led Training

FAA approved classes start online every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Attend live virtual ground school to save 4 -days of hotel, meals, and other travel expenses. After ground school, plan 1–2 calendar days to travel to your simulator training location.

Weekend only classes start every Saturday.

NOTE

Ground school for weekend courses is only available as virtual instructor-led training, with simulator training at ATP JETS in Dallas.

GI BILL

In-person attendance at ATP JETS Dallas is required for training programs approved under the GI Bill®.

Course Schedule

Six training days over approximately 8–10 calendar days for virtual students. Select how you want to attend ground school and class start day to see a sample schedule. Optional ATM testing may follow simulator training.

The ATP Certification Training Program includes four days of ground school, two days of simulator training at ATP JETS, and an optional ATM Knowledge Test. Virtual students complete ground school online before traveling to an ATP JETS training center for simulator training.

Prerequisites

To be eligible for this program you must:

  • Read, speak, write, and understand the English language
Required Items

Required Items

You must bring the following items for your training program:

  • Identification
      U.S. Citizens:
    • Un-expired, Valid US Passport (Blue), OR
    • Original or Certified Copy of Government-Issued Birth Certificate and a valid government-issued photo ID
      (Birth certificate must meet acceptable criteria.)
  • All Pilot Certificates
  • The ATP CTP is VA approved. If you intend to apply for the GI Bill® to help pay for this program (available in Dallas only), you must also bring the following required enrollment documentation:
    • Certificate of eligibility
    • Photocopy of Joint Services Transcript (or USAF transcripts)
    • First Class FAA Medical dated within the last 6 months
  • Web-enabled Mobile Device (iOS/Android phone/tablet)
  • Provide your FTN (FAA Tracking Number). If you do not know your FTN or do not have one, please log in or create an account with Integrated Airman Certification and Rating Application (IACRA).
Note: If you do not bring the required GI Bill® documents, you will not be eligible for GI Bill® reimbursement.

Dress Code

You will be training at airline training centers that have strict dress codes. The dress code for all training is business casual. Wear a collared shirt, long pants and business shoes. Military flight suits, shorts, jeans, t-shirts, tennis shoes and open-toed shoes are not acceptable.
