Starting with zero experience, you must first earn an FAA commercial multi-engine pilot certificate and instrument rating. The Airline Career Pilot Program is the most efficient and proven way to earn the certification you need to become an airline pilot, which will take you just 9 months.

  2. Step 2: Build Experience as a Flight Instructor

Earn 1,500 hours of flight experience as an instructor with ATP. Successful graduates of the Airline Career Pilot Program are guaranteed a Certificated Flight Instructor job with ATP.

  3. Step 3: Earn Tuition Reimbursement with ATP's Airline Partners

    Mesa Airlines

When you're a flight instructor, you can participate in the Tuition Reimbursement Program and earn up to $11,000 in financial assistance from your preferred United Express air carrier and ATP airline partner, such as CommutAir, ExpressJet, or Mesa Airlines.

  4. Step 4: Start Flying as a Regional Airline Pilot

    ~2 Years

Once you reach 1,500 hours of flight time, you will start flying for your regional airline and can take advantage of the United Career Path Program, which allows you to schedule your United interview immediately after successfully completing new hire training and United's Job Fit Assessment.

  5. Step 5: Start as a Pilot with United Airlines

    ~6 Years

After gaining 3,000 hours of experience flying as a regional airline pilot, you can then transition directly to United Airlines with no additional evaluation or interviews required.
