How to Become a Sun Country Airlines Pilot

Here's how to become a Sun Country Airlines pilot through the Sun Country Direct Program.

  1. Airline Career Pilot Program

    Enroll in ATP Flight School's Airline Career Pilot Program and earn an FAA commercial multi-engine pilot certificate and instrument rating.

  2. Flight Instructor Job

    Build experience as an ATP flight instructor after graduating to qualify for airline hiring minimums.

  3. Sun Country Airlines Interview

    Between 1200-1500 hours total flight time, recommended instructors interview with Sun Country Airlines.

  4. Jet Transition & ATP CTP

    Complete ATP CTP and jet transition program with ATP, utilizing a full-motion Boeing 737 simulator training.

  5. Sun Country Airlines Pilot

    Transition to Sun Country and begin flying as a First Officer.

Your path to becoming a Sun Country Airlines pilot starts at ATP Flight School. Here's how to participate in the Sun Country Direct Program and become a Sun Country Airlines' First Officer.

  1. Step 1

    Airline Career Pilot Program

    Enroll in the Airline Career Pilot Program and earn an FAA commercial multi-engine pilot certificate and instrument rating, with flight instructor certificates.

  2. Step 2

    Flight Instructor Job

    Join ATP as a flight instructor after graduating and build flight experience to qualify for airline hiring minimums.

  3. Step 3

    Interview With Sun Country

    Between 1200-1500 hours total flight time, recommended instructors interview with Sun Country Airlines. After the candidate selection and interview process with Sun Country, applicants receive a Conditional Job Offer and continue working towards 1,500 hours of flight experience with ATP.

  4. Step 4

    Jet Transition & ATP CTP

    Before transitioning to Sun Country, pilots must complete ATP CTP and a jet transition program. This tailored transition course includes Boeing 737 full-motion simulator experience, making it an essential investment for pilots as they prepare for their Sun Country training and career.

  5. Step 5

    Sun Country Airlines Pilot

    Begin flying as a First Officer with Sun Country Airlines.
