Fuel Surcharge For the Airline Career Pilot Program

Because of the unpredictable nature of fuel pricing, ATP reserves the right to impose fuel surcharges. As part of our commitment to transparency, fuel surcharges will be calculated based on the GASPRMREFGCW index, which tracks the retail price of gasoline, specifically, Premium Reformulated Gas Price in Gulf Coast District, as it most closely follows Avgas 100 LL. The Federal Reserve Bank tracks the GASPRMREFGCW Index.

  • If the index exceeds a $4.00 threshold, ATP may impose a fuel surcharge.
  • The index will be considered on the first reporting day of each month. Any resulting fuel surcharge will be updated monthly.
  • Fuel surcharges will be applied to out/in hours flown after the surcharge is noticed on your Student Extranet. Fuel surcharges will never be applied retroactively.
  • Fuel surcharges will be calculated as follows:
    • (index - $4.00) x 10 per single-engine flight hour
    • (index - $4.00) x 20 per multi-engine flight hour

This roughly approximates fuel consumption rates of 10 gallons and 20 gallons per hour single-engine and multi-engine, respectively.

  • If the $4.00 threshold is exceeded, and ATP elects not to impose a fuel surcharge, ATP does not waive the right to impose one later. (For example, ATP has the option to delay imposing a fuel surcharge if prices spike. But if prices remain elevated, ATP retains the right to impose the fuel surcharge going forward.)
  • There is no fuel discount for index prices below the $4.00 threshold.
