Admissions Prerequisites & Requirements For the Airline Career Pilot Program
Admission prerequisites are the same for both the Airline Career Pilot Program and the 100+ Hour Multi-Engine Program. Choose Your Starting Point…
Start from Zero Time
- US Citizenship (or Permanent Resident)
- 18 years of age or older
- One of the following is preferred:
- A High School GPA of 3.0 (High School Seniors and Recent Graduates Only), or
- Two Years of College Experience, or
- Two Years of Work Experience, or
- Two Years of Military Service With an Honorable Discharge
- FAA First Class Medical Certificate with no limitations (except for corrective lenses)
Height and Weight Limitations
Students taller than 6'3" are assessed during an introductory flight for comfort inside the aircraft and the ability to manipulate the controls fully. Pilots shorter than 5'4" must purchase and use a seat cushion for proper visibility while still being able to manipulate the controls fully. Due to aircraft operational limitations, students and instructors weighing more than 250 lbs are not eligible for training in ATP aircraft.
Credit for Solo
- US Citizenship (or Permanent Resident)
- 18 years of age or older
- 43+ Hours Total Flight Time
- All solo requirements per 14 CFR § 61.109(a)(5)
- 10 hours of flight time within 90 days of your ATP class date is preferred.
- FAA First Class Medical Certificate with no limitations (except for corrective lenses)

Time Build
For $285 per hour, ATP will include the flight time required to reach 43 hours total time before proceeding in the Airline Career Pilot Program.
Credit for Private Pilot
- US Citizenship (or Permanent Resident)
- 18 years of age or older
- Private Pilot Certificate
Note: Must hold temporary or permanent certificate prior to scheduling. - 78+ Hours Total Flight Time, including
- 8 Hours Cross-Country PIC
- 10 hours of flight time within 90 days of your ATP class date is preferred.
- FAA First Class Medical Certificate with no limitations (except for corrective lenses)

How to Get Your FAA First Class Medical Certificate
Airline pilots must hold an FAA First Class Medical Certificate with no limitations (except corrective lenses). To obtain your certificate through an Aeromedical Examiner (AME):
- Complete the initial application at FAA MedXpress. (Important: Use your full legal name as it appears on your passport or birth certificate.)
- Locate an AME near you and schedule a First Class Medical exam.
