Horizon Air Joins ATP's Tuition Reimbursement Program

June 15, 2016

Horizon Air has finalized an agreement with ATP Flight School that paves the way for its participation in ATP’s Tuition Reimbursement Program. This program allows ATP graduate flight instructors to have up to $11,000 of their flight training costs paid for by Horizon Air, in exchange for agreeing to fly for Horizon Air after earning the requisite number of hours.

This innovative program actively promotes the airline pilot career by helping ease the financial burden associated with flight training, making the career more accessible. Through participation in the ATP Tuition Reimbursement Program, Horizon Air is one of the few airlines now investing early in a pilot’s career, while they are still building experience. Offered to ATP graduates in exchange for a commitment to fly for the airline, this new partnership helps provide a new generation of pilots with an accessible and rewarding career path as an airline pilot.

"Pilot supply is certainly in the forefront of everyone’s mind as we look to staff Horizon Air, as well as our other Alaska Air Group airlines Virgin America, and Alaska Airlines in the future," says Captain LaMar Haugaard, Horizon Air Director of Pilot Development and Recruiting. "The ATP Tuition Reimbursement program is a terrific opportunity to assist with the financial burden faced by aspiring pilots, while simultaneously giving Horizon Air immediate access to some of the nation’s top aviation talent."

"ATP Flight School has proven that Tuition Reimbursement promotes the airline pilot career and builds a predictable supply of pilots to the regional airline. The partnership with Horizon gives pilots in the Pacific Northwest access to a premier employer and a career path to Alaska,” says ATP Vice President Justin Dennis.
