Pilot Career Path and BenefitsSteps to Participate in the Program

The Fastest Path to United

  1. Step 1

    Airline Career Pilot Program

Begin flight training in the Airline Career Pilot Program.

    United Aviate

If your goal is to fly for United, apply to join the United Aviate program after earning your private pilot certificate. Aviate through ATP offers you an accelerated path to a career at United with added benefits.

  2. Step 2

Build Experience as a Flight Instructor

Become a flight instructor with ATP — guaranteed instructor job for Airline Career Pilot Program graduates, earning up to $42,000 annually with airline tuition reimbursement.

  3. Step 3

Airline Interview & Airline Tuition Reimbursement

Between 300-500 hours total time, interview with ExpressJet. If you accept their offer, they make a financial contribution toward your loan payment and you make a commitment to fly for that airline. Payments are $5 per flight hour, based on how much flight time you acquire each month. If you did not finance your flight training, payments are made directly to you.

  4. Step 4

    Airline Pilot Job Placement

About two years after starting flight training, and with approximately $5,000 in airline tuition reimbursement received, you start your new hire class with ExpressJet. $500 monthly payments continue to supplement first-year airline pay for at least 12 months.

  5. Step 5

    Fly for United

    United Airlines

Through Aviate, after 2,000 flight hours and 24 months flying as a ExpressJet pilot you will be eligible to transition to United. This program will place you at the top of the priority list, and once a first officer position at United is open, you’ll receive a job offer!
