The first step towards becoming a commercial pilot is earning your single-engine Private Pilot Certificate. Nationwide Cross-Country Flying

Upon earning an Instrument Rating, students begin the cross-country phase of their training. ATP's quality instructional methods will have you flying as pilot-in-command, nationwide in an airline-style environment. This nationwide flying requires a level of currency, proficiency, and standardization that defines ATP's excellence in flight training.

All cross-country flights are operated in an FAR 121 airline-style environment. Flights will be scheduled to selected ATP Training Centers nationwide and will be conducted with flight releases to assist with weather, routing, and performance reviews.

During this stage, you will typically fly trips to locations about 350 NM from the base training center. You may have an opportunity to fly coast-to-coast cross-country flights if your schedule permits approximately 10 consecutive days to make the trip out and back, and allow for weather contingencies. All ATP flights nationwide are scheduled and monitored around-the-clock by a specialized Flight Operations team.

Typical Training DayDuring the cross-country stage, your required availability is seven days per week. Weather and checkride availability may limit some weekend time off, but generally expect weekends off.

Tuition Reimbursement Program Interview with Your Airline Between 300-500 Hours Total Time

Airlines have selected ATP as a preferred training provider to build their pilot pipelines with the best training, offering ATP graduates at least $11,000 in tuition reimbursement though ATP's Tuition Reimbursement Program.

As an Airline Career Pilot Program graduate, you can begin taking advantage of this program between 300-500 hours total flight time. Here's how it works:

Step 1: Airline Career Pilot Program

Graduate from the Airline Career Pilot Program with CFIs.

Step 2: Build Experience as a Flight Instructor

Become a flight instructor with ATP — guaranteed instructor job for Airline Career Pilot Program graduates.

Step 3: Airline Interview & Airline Tuition Reimbursement

Between 300-500 hours total time, interview with your airline. If you accept the airline's offer, they make a financial contribution toward your loan payment and you make a commitment to fly for that airline. Payments are $5 per flight hour, based on how much flight time you acquire each month.

Step 4: Airline Pilot Job Placement

About two years after starting flight training, and with approximately $5,000 in airline tuition reimbursement received, you start new hire class with your airline. $500 monthly payments continue to supplement first-year airline pay for at least 12 months.
